't Leeshuus, Ceci n'est pas un café...but much more.
't Leeshuus aims to connect as many people as possible, who - for whatever reason - struggle to participate actively and fully in society, by involving them in an operation that puts literature and all other forms of written and spoken word centre stage.
To this end, we created a low-threshold meeting place where everyone is welcome. This includes a second-hand bookshop as well as a more-than-just-a-café where you can enjoy a drink , a chat and many interesting people with an open mind. Attention has been paid to wheelchair accessibility, including toilet facilities, and obviously wheelchair-bound passers-by are also welcome.
't Leeshuus is run entirely by volunteers, including people with disabilities. These are supported by people with their own other disabilities :)
Together they provide a small city oasis where commitment and caring for each other are central.
't Leeshuus organises literary and other events as well as reading clubs. At each of these, there is always attention and space for people with disabilities of any kind.
There are also book promotions where people with a UIT-PAS or EDC card can enjoy benefits.
